Marathon Petroleum Company LP’s Louisiana Refining Division currently has an opening for an Area Team Engineer in the Engineering Department.
Overview: We are seeking a motivated, team oriented individual to provide project management and mechanical design services for a refinery process operations team. Projects include small capital and expense projects needed to properly maintain and optimize existing operating units. Projects typically range in size from $20,000 – $5,000,000. Management of multiple projects concurrently is required.


  • Apply project management skills in all phases of project engineering from conception to closeout.
  • Interact daily with project team members to develop and execute project objectives.
  • Develop and define scope, cost estimates, and schedules for assigned projects.
  • Confer with management and project stakeholders throughout a project life cycle
  • Secure funding approval from management for small capital and expense projects.
  • Coordinate work of in-house designers and outside engineering contractors
  • Develop and review construction work packages to ensure new installations meet MPC and all applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Provide field construction support and final project installation sign-off.
  • Manage multiple projects and assignments in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner.
  • Provide mechanical technical support and troubleshooting for an assigned operation team.
  • Participate in area HAZOP reviews and incident investigations.
  • Provide mechanical assistance for operation teams during process unit turnarounds.


  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years post degree engineering experience in the refining or petrochemical industry is preferred.
